The Four Nations Challenge, Walking!


Here are four excellent walks, one in each nation of the UK and Ireland, arranged from the easiest (around 1 hour) to the most challenging (around 4 hours). If you're planning a walking holiday, these four make an excellent Four Nations Challenge, giving you a taste of the very best scenery across England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland without requiring advanced hiking experience.
England: Dovedale Stepping Stones
1 hour, Easy
A gentle riverside walk along the River Dove with famous stepping stones, limestone cliffs and beautiful woodland. Suitable for most ages.
Ireland: Glendalough Upper Lake Loop
2 hours, Easy to Moderate
One of Ireland's most scenic valley walks, passing lakes, waterfalls and the historic monastic site. Great all year round.
Wales: Llyn Idwal Circular Walk
3 hours, Moderate
A spectacular mountain lake surrounded by dramatic cliffs. The paths are well maintained but include some rocky sections.
Scotland: Conic Hill
4 hours, Moderate to Challenging
A rewarding hill walk with panoramic views over Loch Lomond and its islands. The ascent is steady but not technical.
